The EC145 is a twin-engine medium helicopter, which was developed in a cooperation between Eurocopter and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Compared to the basic design - the BK 117, the EC145 received a new fuselage with a more spacious cabin. One advantage of the new rotor blades on the EC145 are a much lower vibration level and a 25% increase in range. Of particular advantage in the search and rescue role is its much greater range compared to other helicopters in its class. In addition to its use on rescue flights the EC145 is also used for policing and transport tasks. The German Air Rescue Service currently uses a large number of EC145's and it is one of the main pillars of the Air Rescue System.
